That one fish.....

With everyone catching a lot of big fish this year, I have yet to connect with a true brute......
This past weekend I changed that..........This pig came to hand.....

The slob fought like hell, as it was dime bright. It happened to be my first fish of the day, I was stoked.
Even though its no giant, its a solid 31.5" x 16.5" fish. Thanks for the awesome pics Ken.

Admiring that beautiful fish...........See you on the creek.....MARIO

New Water

We had to drop someone off at the airport this morning, so we thought, how can we pull some fishing into this deal? The Rocky River was close by so we decided to give it a go. As with any new water it is always a new adventure, as a fisherman, your always wondering "Whats around the next bend?" or "Whats that water look like below the next riffle?" After quickly finding our way into the park , we decided to try the lower river. After it got light out, I hooked one pretty fast. But this fish decided to break me off. He later antagonized me by sitting 10 feet in front of me, my float bobbing up and down. I "Re-hooked" the fish on the float and got part of my rig back- that was funny. After exploring some new water, we were very impressed  with the access and the amount of fish-able water. So to all of you who are within 15 minutes of this Metro-Park, I'm not afraid to say that I am jealous. It was a good day on some new water. Tight lines......................MARIO

A Huge Surprise

While fishing a few weeks ago I ran into some top-shots of Orvis. As we bullshitted we started talking about switch rods and what not. I went to find my dad, came back, and Steve had an Orvis access switch in his hand. He handed it over and said "Merry Christmas, this is for you" I looked in shock and disbelief and said "No way!" He said "yup..for you" I was completely shocked and wanted to scream for joy. This was my dream rod that I had wanted since it came out! I want to thanks Steve and Shawn for their generosity and kindness. These are some of the coolest and most knowledgeable guys in the fly fishing business. This is what Orvis is all about. I CANT THANK YOU GUYS ENOUGH FOR WHAT YOU DID. I got a chance to swing it around the day after, man is it SICK.

Its maiden voyage!

Even though I didnt get one on it, there is always next week right? You bet, I knocked this big female within the first half hour of the next trip out.

I would strongly recommend buying Orvis-they have quality gear, and they stand behind it-not mater what!

Thank you guys so much-you rock!

This Past Weekend

Day 1 Well the 1st day started on a bad note. As I stepped out of the car to get ready to hit the water, I noticed, SH*T! I forgot my waders! Really? How can you forget your waders while going steelhead fishing? You dumb*ss Mario! After a quick ride over to a local baitshop I grabbed some $40 hip-boots. I wasn't going to let it ruin my day! Anyway, the bottom line is that I will never live this one down, and Alan has ammunition to bust my balls for at least a year. But don't worry, I didn't forget who got the skunk..I set off to the water with my "Russian waders" on, if anyone gets the joke, wink wink.
The first fish soon came to hand, gotta love those tailouts in cold weather!

Hey, you like my waders? HAHA
Day 2  With the river still dropping we headed to a spot farther upstream. The day started off good with dad hitting a fish on the first stop. With our heads up, we fished on, hoping for a good day. We soon took a peace of humble pie. Most of the day was a big dry period. For me it was snag. tangle, breakoff, etc. Not loosing hope we went back downstream to hear that my dad hooked a few.

Jeremy didn't give up and brought to hand this nice female. Finally got your eggs!

November 11, 2011

We decided to head to a popular area on the lower stretch of this particular stream. We were greeted by only 2 cars. Getting excited we geared up and headed down to the river. I chose to break out my center- pin  for a change, I like to switch it up. The first dunk came in quick order.

One chunky female
Before you knew it, dunk number two came around, I hooked and landed a nice male. Two for two-I was grinning. I even caught my favorite friend- a skipper. I'm still batting 100! I got to meet up with a couple friends-my buddy Alan and his friend Sam. After struggling a bit at first he finally hit this chromer on a purple Egg-Sucking leach.

Sam is a SUPER FUN guy to fish with, he might be the funniest guy on the creek-especially when he is hooked up with a fish! WHOOAAA!!! YAAA!!!

After a short walk upstream dad finally got the funk off! This dime fought like hell! Dad was grinning again! After a couple nice pics she swam off strong!

As I walked upstream I had high hopes for the next hole. My first pass I was down, hooked into a fresh fish. The fish fought me, brought me through through two split logs, under another one, jumped and finally wrapped me! I tried to get him out but he had me good, nothing to do but to break him off. I retied and two drifts later the same thing happened! Damn! Frustrated, I took a short break. Soon after I hear Sam hooting FISH!, FISH! Yes! He brought his fish to hand for a quick picture.

Dad caught a pig of a fish but no-one was there to take a pic. The day was a good one, mission accomplished! See you on the creek!
